Azadpur Mandi Morning

Behind the Scenes: A Morning at Fresh Mandi (6 AM at Azadpur)

4:30 AM: before the gates even feel busy

Our morning starts long before the store opens. By the time most of Delhi is still asleep, our buying team is already at Azadpur Mandi, watching the first trucks of the day unload. This early window matters — the best stock moves fast, and being late by even half an hour can mean missing the best crates of the day entirely.

6 AM: the mandi at full volume

By 6 AM, Azadpur is in full swing — a genuinely overwhelming scene if you've never seen it, with hundreds of traders shouting prices, porters moving crates stacked shoulder-high, and buyers from shops across the city doing exactly what we're doing. This is where the day's real decisions get made: what's good, what's overpriced, what's worth carrying back.

The actual buying: slower than it looks

From the outside, mandi buying looks fast and chaotic. Up close, it's more deliberate than it appears. Our buyers open crates, dig past the top layer, check a handful of pieces from the middle and bottom, and only then agree on a price. It's not unusual to walk past a stall that looks perfectly fine and buy from the next one instead, purely because something about the batch underneath didn't check out.

7:30 AM: back before Delhi's even had breakfast

Once the morning's buying is done, everything gets loaded and moved straight to our store — no stop at a warehouse, no cold storage in between. By the time regular shoppers start their day, what we bought at Azadpur a couple of hours earlier is already on the shelf, priced and ready.

Everything you see in our store by mid-morning made this exact trip a few hours earlier. If you've ever wondered what “fresh off the truck” actually means, this is it.
