Fresh Produce Sourcing

How Fresh Mandi Sources Produce: From Mandi Floor to Your Bag

It starts before the sun's up

Our buying day starts hours before our store opens. Our team is at Azadpur Mandi while most of Delhi is still asleep, walking the produce lines while trucks are still being unloaded. There's no phone call to a supplier the night before, no fixed order sheet — the buying decision genuinely happens on the mandi floor, based on what looks, smells and feels right that morning.

The selection process is physical, not just visual

Buying at scale on a mandi floor isn't like picking fruit at a shop counter. Crates are stacked deep, and what's visible on top isn't always representative of what's underneath — sellers know this too, which is exactly why our buyers dig into the middle of a pile before agreeing to anything. A tomato crate that looks perfect on top can hide bruised or overripe stock two layers down, and that's the layer that actually tells you what you're buying.

From crate to store, same day

Once produce is bought, it moves fast: loaded, transported, and unpacked onto our shelves the same morning, with no cold storage stop in between. That's a deliberate choice, not a shortcut — cold storage extends shelf life but also masks age, and we'd rather sell through stock quickly and buy fresh again tomorrow than hold onto anything for later.

What this means day to day

In practice, it means our shelf genuinely looks different from one day to the next, depending on what was strongest at the mandi that morning. Some days that means an abundance of a particular vegetable at a great price; other days it means we simply don't carry something because it wasn't good enough to bring back. It's a less predictable way to run a shop, but it's the only way we know to keep the promise of “fresh” honest.

Everything on our shelf today made that same early-morning trip from Azadpur — come see what survived the walk.
